SmarterMeter checks the published domestic tariffs of all 11 Irish electricity suppliers on a regular basis and keeps them in a live price register — rates, standing charges, discounts and sign-up bonuses. This page is recalculated from that register every hour, so the figures are always current rather than a snapshot from a press release.
All costs are Estimated Annual Bills (EABs) as defined by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities: 4,200kWh of typical annual consumption priced at each plan's unit rates (for smart tariffs, the CRU's split of day 2,184 kWh / night 1,638 kWh / peak 378 kWh), plus the urban standing charge, any prepayment charge and the PSO levy, all including 9% VAT — and excluding cashback, welcome bonuses and other non-energy items, exactly as the CRU definition requires. The headline “typical annual bill” is the average, across suppliers, of each supplier's cheapest new-customer plan on that measure. Wholesale-tracking dynamic tariffs are excluded. Each time we check, the prices are compared against what we have on file, so a “change” recorded here means a supplier really did alter a published price.
